A couple of days ago I explained the difference between a burglary and a home invasion. Now remember – a burglary happens when you’re not home. So YOU yourself cannot be there to defend your turf, you have to try to make your home unattractive to criminals.

Here are some ways to prevent a burglary:

1. LOCK YOUR DOORS AND WINDOWS! This needs to be the first one because most of the time this is how criminals ‘break’ into homes. Double check them too! I live in a condo with 24×7 security personnel on staff — My husband and I STILL check our door at night to be sure we locked it.

2. Don’t EVER leave an extra key outside. This is one of the first things intruders look for. Oh you mean there’s a place close to your home no one will ever look, right? Nope, wrong! Robbers know…
