The dew on the morning grass is turning to frost, and the sun in the sky is losing the battle to keep us warm. It’s the perfect time of year to start up a fireplace, which not only warms up your home, but can warm up your heart as well.
We don’t want to discourage anyone from enjoying their fireplace over the next few months, but we want to encourage all of you to exercise caution.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission fireplaces and chimney’s caused an average of 24,300 house fires per year between 2009 and 2011. The same study reports that those house fires resulted in an average of 90 injuries and 20 deaths per year within that same date range.
