It was midnight when I heard the loud bells of the fire alarm. I shot out of bed and yelled to my wife to “Get up! Get the kids!”. We crawled low to the floor outside the bedroom and opened our kids’ door, went in, and immediately woke them up.
As we went back out in the hall, we could view the flames in the kitchen below. We went right down the stairs and out onto the lawn, where one of our friends already was waiting. He said he called 911, and we could hear the sirens. Why was it taking the fire department so very long to get here?
Now, the flames started to consume most of the first floor and our den—which also was my office! Everything was in there!
