Surely remote controls have to be on the way out. They add cost and the average household has heaps of them. The home theatre, the TV, the DVD player, the heat pump. It just doesn’t make sense to have so many devices and in’t the slightest bit sustainable.

I wonder how many remotes are manufactured each year and how many are tossed away each year when appliances break down and are replaced. I wonder how much cost that adds both from a deisgn and manufacture perspective and from the perspective of sustainability? I’m sure the numbers aren’t pretty.
